Turnip

Turnips are vegetables. It is similar to beetroot having a similar taste and also has the similarity of growth. They both grow in the roots. Both vegetables have too many benefits. The difference between turnips and beetroots are: turnips are soft while beetroots are hard. Turnips are white in color while beetroots are red in color. We also eat turnips as salad. There are many ways of cooking turnips. Some people cook in hard form and some people cook in gravy form. I am sharing the recipe of hard turnips. I will also share the recipe of gravy chicken turnips as soon. Turnips have too many health benefits.

Note: Persons who have an acidity problem, must avoid the consumption of turnips.

Total time: 50 mins

Ingredients:

Turnip (shaljum) ----- 1 kg

Chicken ----- 500 g

Salt ----- as taste

Red Chili powder ----- 1 tsp

Turmeric powder ----- 1/4th tsp

Coriander powder ----- 1 tsp

Green chili ----- 2

Garlic ----- 1 flower

Onion ----- 1 (medium)

Sugar ----- 2 tbsp

Coriander leaves(chopped) ----- half bunch

Oil ----- 1 cup

Tomatoes ----- 2

Water ----- as required

Black pepper ----- 1 tsp

Cumin seeds powder ----- 1 tsp

Method:

Take a pressure cooker and add cut turnips (shaljum), chicken, salt, red pepper, turmeric powder, coriander powder, green chili, coriander leaves, tomatoes, onion, garlic, and a glass of water. Cover the pressure cooker and cook for 15mins. After 15mins, open the cooker and add oil, black pepper, sugar, and cumin seeds powder, cook for 10 mins and mix smoothly. The chicken also becomes in threads form and shaljum is also mixed with each other. The delicious shaljum chicken is ready to serve. Garnish with Coriander leaves. Enjoy it with boiled rice or roti.
